“Currywurst” – Grilled Sausage in Curry Sauce

May 19, 2012 3 comments

Since I was born and raised in “Thüringen” (Thuringia) I think that the best sausages come from that area. I bought original “Thüringer Rostbratwurst” (Thuringian grilled sausage) to make “Currywurst” today. It’s very simple. Grill or fry the sausage, cut it in pieces, pour curry sauce on top of it and spice it up with some extra curry if you like. Enjoy!

Homemade Curry Sauce

May 18, 2012 4 comments

I like to watch cooking shows and today I tried a recipe for curry sauce of a german Michelin Star Chef Frank Oehler that I’ve seen in one of those shows.
Ingredients: 250 g onions, 500 g tomatoes, a tin of tomatoes, 250 ml barbecue sauce, 250 ml ketchup, 1 big garlic clove, 2 granny smith apples, a pineapple, curry, 200 g country ham (Rohschinken; I was supposed to use bacon instead of ham, but I just don’t like bacon.)

1. The ham I bought was already cut in small cubes, so it was less work to do for me. 😉 I fried it in oil. (The recipe said I should use fat, but I had only sunflower oil at home.)
2. I cut the onions in small pieces, chopped the garlic and added it to the ham.
3. After that I cut the tomatoes, apples and pineapple and added that aswell.
4. At last I added the canned tomatoes, ketchup, barbecue sauce and some curry (use as much as you like).
5. I let it simmer for about an hour and stirred it from time to time.
6. Next step was to purée it with a blender and pass it through a sieve.
7. Fill it in a bottle and put it in the fridge. 🙂

Sandwich Toast

May 13, 2012 2 comments

Today I tried making a sandwich toast with my homemade brown bread instead of toast from the supermarket. I filled them with ketchup, tomato and cheese and it turned out pretty good.
